Are You Even Breathing? A note from Carrie... Wh Are You Even Breathing? A note from Carrie... When I first made the commitment to myself to practice yoga & meditation daily, I had a newborn baby and a tremendous amount of debilitating anxiety.  I could not eat in public without my jaw locking up.  I had nightmares, panic attacks, racing thoughts, and heavy, dense clouds of worry that blocked any sunshine.  I was exhausted.  My mind was a dreary, frightening place to exist.  I couldn't live there anymore and I had to make a change for myself, for my child, for my life, for our life.  I wanted to feel alive. So at the end of the day - after work and baby and chores and bedtime routines, instead of watching TV, I began to meditate with deep breathing.  Every night, for many years.  From there my yoga practice blossomed, into an early morning routine.  And I changed. I remember realizing early on that I wasn't breathing.  I was holding my breath, I couldn't let go, I had trapped myself.  When I first learned how to breathe correctly, the entire world shifted on its axis, and that act alone was the catalyst for calm, and peace, and regulation to enter my life.  Home has always been a theme for me, and when I practiced conscious breathing, I felt at home in my body and that I could always return there.   Then in came the energy, the clarity of mind, radiance, joy, and exactly what I was interested in experiencing from the beginning - life.  I could feel life.  I could feel bliss.  I could feel wonder.  I could feel appreciation.  I could feel vibrant.  I could feel sensual.  I.  Could.  Feel.  My mind has never looked back to those racing thoughts and burdensome worries since those years.  And, now that I have stepped away as a full-time holistic arts practitioner and entered a full-time nine-to-five, I'm reflecting on that first beginning practice and feeling the urge to return.  As time has tightened around me, I'm remembering to come back home.  To what is natural.  To what is instinct.  To breathe.   This is a piece of my story.  And yours is different.  But, it is my invitation to you, to exhale.  Let go of all you are holding and let life in on June 12th for Breath of Life: Sound and Breath Workshop

Peeling back the layers in this old farmhouse. Som Peeling back the layers in this old farmhouse. Some documents say 1835, some 1910 either way there's a lot of history, a lot of stories, laughter, tears, memories in these old walls. Today was demo day in the kitchen, something I've been longing to do for many years. Under a few layers of wallpaper and sticky tiles we found this adorable paper, then of course getting that big ol cast iron sink out wasn't easy and then some lost and forgotten bits including photographs, news clippings, letters etc. bits of life. We're all just passing through. Let's make the very very best of it - with kindness, compassion and love This is certainly a special place, these Meadows. It's a beautiful morning on the Meadows especially It's a beautiful morning on the Meadows especially after all this rain we've been having. We are set to open in just a few weeks, still lots to do for the Spring clean up but we'll get it done 🙂 We've got some wonderful events up on the calendar for June and some really special things planned for the Summer so I do hope you'll join us this year.
